Students into Schools operate across West Yorkshire to help raise the aspirations and attainment of young people, and to give you the opportunity to develop skills in an educational setting.
About 400 undergraduates and postgraduates (taught and research) take part annually, assisting in over 80 schools and colleges to deliver and support a range of educational interventions tailored to the needs of each school.
WHY SHOULD YOU GET INVOLVED?
- Students into Schools placements are the best way to gain experience to see if a career in teaching is for you and to make key contacts with recruiting schools and organisations. Each year Students into Schools participants go on to teacher training with their placement school.
- The placements and training offered by students into schools – delivered by education professionals- enable you to develop transferable skills relevant to an array of graduate jobs.
- Participating in Students into Schools is a great way to give back to the local community by enhancing young people’s education in areas that need it most.
“Seeing the pride the pupils felt when they understood something they previously found challenging was so rewarding!” Jade Ward, Theology and Religious Studies module student at Woodkirk School
“Taking part helped me to gain a place on a Schools Direct PGCE. Teachers had a wealth of experience and were able to offer me advice and feedback. In the interview, I was able to relax as the classroom environment felt normal” Emily Gavaghan, volunteer at The Co-operative Academy of Leeds
